Choosing a background mode
- Transparent: Keeps the subject on transparency. Best with PNG.
- White: Places the subject on a clean white background.
- Solid Color: Lets you choose a background color.
- Background Image: Places the cutout over another image.
How to improve difficult cutouts
Background removal depends on the image. Some photos work perfectly on the first preview, while others need a few adjustments. Hair, dark clothing, low contrast, shadows, cluttered backgrounds, or similar subject/background colors can make the result harder.
- Background Removal: Lower values keep more of the subject. Higher values remove more aggressively.
- Subject Brightness: Brightens or darkens the subject after the background is removed.
- Edge Feather: Softens the edge slightly. Small values usually look more natural.
- Protect Region: Use this when clothing, hair, hands, or body parts are getting removed too aggressively.
- Refine Region: Use this when one local area needs a second pass, such as hair, a face, shoulders, or a low-contrast edge.
- Subject Selection: Use this when you want to isolate only one person or one specific area from the result.
Protect Region vs. Refine Region vs. Subject Selection
- Use Protect Region when the remover is cutting away part of the subject that should stay.
- Use Refine Region when one difficult area needs a smarter second pass.
- Use Subject Selection when you only want one person or one specific part of the image exported.

What to watch out for
- Background removal results vary by image. Some photos work well immediately, while others need adjustment.
- JPG does not preserve transparency. Use PNG for transparent cutouts.
- Hair, shadows, dark clothing, and low-contrast edges may need Protect or Refine Regions.
- Too much Edge Feather can make the subject look soft.
- Too aggressive Background Removal can cut away parts of the subject.
- Busy backgrounds may need more manual refinement.
- Test one image before running a large batch.
