Remove image backgrounds without uploading your files

Use Grafiq Background Remover to create transparent cutouts, white-background images, solid-color backgrounds, or simple background replacements locally.

Background Remover overview

Background removal is useful for product photos, profile images, thumbnails, listings, presentations, family photos, and quick design work. Grafiq Background Remover gives you a local desktop workflow for cutting out a subject and exporting a new image.

You can export a transparent PNG, place the subject on white, choose a solid background color, or place the subject over another background image.

No account. No ads. No subscriptions. No watermarks. No data harvesting.

Availability and results

Availability note: Background Remover is available on Windows and Apple silicon Macs where supported, but it is not available on Intel Macs in the Mac App Store build. Use the version available for your system, and test with one image before preparing a large batch.
Results may vary: Some images produce a clean background removal on the first try. Other images may need experimentation with Background Removal strength, Edge Feather, Protect Regions, Refine Regions, or Subject Selection. Busy backgrounds, hair, shadows, dark clothing, low contrast, and similar subject/background colors can make background removal harder.

What Background Remover is for

Background Remover is designed for cutting a person, object, product, or subject out of an image. It can keep the subject on transparency or place the subject on a new filled background.

Local-first note: Background removal works as a desktop workflow in Grafiq where supported. You do not need to upload private photos to an online background remover.

Choosing a background mode

Simple rule: Use PNG + Transparent when you want a cutout. Use JPG + White when you want a normal image with a simple filled background.

How to improve difficult cutouts

Background removal depends on the image. Some photos work perfectly on the first preview, while others need a few adjustments. Hair, dark clothing, low contrast, shadows, cluttered backgrounds, or similar subject/background colors can make the result harder.

Protect Region vs. Refine Region vs. Subject Selection

Clean workflow: Preview first. If too much subject is removed, lower Background Removal or add a Protect Region. If one area still looks wrong, add a Refine Region and preview again. If you only want one subject, use Subject Selection.
